Here is the interpretation provided with the chart. My comments follow each entry. As they say on the Psychic Hotline infomercials, this is meant for entertainment purposes only!

Name: Jane Austen

12/16/1775

9:00 PM Time Zone is 0.0878 Hrs.

I had to take an educated guess as to the time; I could only find out that she was born at night, obviously some time before midnight. If she was born between 11:30 or so and midnight, her ascendant would be a different sign. Nothing else would be affected.

Winchester, England

The software would not accept Steventon as a birthplace, so I went with the closest large town.

Ascendant is in 24 Degrees -- Leo

You love to be the center of attention and you want to appear strong, confident and dominant. You are very proud of yourself, sometimes quite vain even. When all around you are bedraggled and falling apart, you look like a million bucks!

Doesn't really jibe with family reports that Jane and Cassandra were rather frumpy dressers!)

Very dignified and honorable, you enjoy the power and privilege, but not the responsibilities, that come with leadership. You are very idealistic but can also be quite stubborn.

That explains why Cassandra was unable to talk Jane into letting Fanny Price marry Henry Crawford.

Others impress you only if they have integrity (but wealth, power and influence can also turn your head). You prefer rich, elegant surroundings and possessions, and will try to acquire them as your budget allows. Physically, you are very impressive - - at your best you have a regal, charismatic demeanor and bearing.

JA was described as having excellent posture and a firm walk!

Try not to be such a showoff!

I think she's entitled!

Sun is in 24 Degrees -- Sagittarius

Very fun-loving, spirited and energetic, you have a huge reservoir of physical energy within you that needs to be released. As such, exercise or sports are very important to you.

Jane described herself as an "indefatigable walker."

Quite gregarious, you enjoy being with other people, but you tend to avoid emotionally restrictive or intimate relationships.

Could the decision not to marry have something to do with this?

Constantly curious about the broader issues of life, you may at times be quite careless and sloppy about details -- you tend to leap to conclusions before all the facts are in.

Sounds more like Lizzy Bennet than Our Jane!

An avid reader, you are totally enthusiastic about any given subject should it interest you. You are known for being idealistic, generous, sociable, cheerful and very positive!

Moon is in 13 Degrees -- Libra

Affectionate, warm and friendly, life must be a "beautiful" experience for you. Unpleasantness should be avoided at all costs. You tend to overlook other people's faults and you would rather give in than fight. You are uncomfortable with strangers, but at ease and sociable with friends and associates.

One of the brothers, not sure which one, wrote that Jane was indeed reserved among strangers, and thought by some to be proud, but was relaxed and amiable amongst the family circle.

Indeed, you would rather socialize than work -- you can use your prodigious charm to avoid unpleasant tasks. You need the support and assistance of another in order to get you started on any new project -- you are not a self-starter.

I don't know about that!

Be careful of a tendency to be overly self-indulgent (i.e., lazy). Your refined aesthetic sensibilities attract you to music, dance, art and any other cultured activity.

We know how much Jane loved to dance!

Mercury is in 06 Degrees -- Sagittarius

Your mind is very curious and inquisitive, always seeking information on a wide variety of topics. The broader the subject matter (philosophy, science, religion, metaphysics), the more it will appeal to you. You prefer to deal with abstractions -- the small but important details associated with any subject tend to slip your grasp.

No, no, no, no, no! Such careful wordsmansmith would not have been possible!

You are known for being blunt, honest and truthful.

(*snort*)

Venus is in 09 Degrees -- Scorpio

Your feelings about others are deep, powerful, intense and complex. When you like someone, you do so totally and obsessively if you do not like someone, they do not exist. Your faithfulness and loyalty to your lover is unquestioned, indeed at times it is too much so -- you get so possessive that you almost smother your partner. At times, your feelings are kept deep within you and, because they are so complex and intense, they frighten you -- this is the way that you try to ignore them. But the more you try to do this, the more explosive things get when you eventually do express them.

None of this rings true to me, but after all we don't know much about JA's deep emotions, do we?

Mars is in 19 Degrees -- Capricorn

Extremely ambitious, you are willing to work very hard to reach the goals you have set for yourself.

I'll buy that!

Very practical, cautious and conservative,

she socked away the money she earned writing for her future.

...you demand tangible results for your efforts. You need to excel in whatever you do, and you have the required sense of responsibility, dedication and self-discipline to bring it about. Beware of your tendency to judge others only by their degree of status and prestige, or by how well they will be able to advance you in your climb to the top.

Jupiter is in 15 Degrees -- Gemini

You have a logical, detached, objective view of most things.

In her writing, definitely!

Your interests are wide-ranging and you are an avid student, with expertise in many different areas.

Sounds like Henry Tilney!

You love to work things out in your mind -- everything you do is reduced to an exercise in logic and reason. You have the ability to grasp abstractions and to deal successfully with the larger issues of life. Your overemphasis on developing your powerful intellect can cause your emotional and intuitive abilities to atrophy unless you consciously choose to exercise them.

I think writing novels is an excellent way to exercise one's intellectual abilities!

Saturn is in 19 Degrees -- Libra

Although you take quite a while to make decisions, you usually consider all sides to a question, all the pros and cons, and the solution you come up with is very often the correct one. You tend to be very reserved and shy, but, once you make a commitment to someone (in either a business or personal relationship), the partnership is forever. You have a strong sense of justice and fair play and greatly respect the laws and institutions by which you are governed. As such, you are outraged when others break laws or show contempt for authority.

JA is on record as being critical of the French Revolution.

Uranus is in 03 Degrees -- Gemini

You, and your peer group as well, are attracted to new, unusual and revolutionary thoughts, ideas and lifestyles.

Interesting, as she was born during the period of the Enlightenment!

You prefer abstract, idealistic solutions to practical, immediately useful answers.

Don't know about that!

You delight in communications, the mass media, electronics, computers and all sorts of gadgetry.

Obviously some of this does not apply but there were great advances in machinery and inventions during JA's lifetime.

Neptune is in 24 Degrees -- Virgo

You, and your entire generation, idealize work, duty and responsibility.

Just ask Frederick Wentworth.

You tend to be very fearful of anything that would force you out of the protective shell of your everyday routines.

Such as, say, the French Revolution?

You place a high premium on personal pride in productivity and craftsmanship. But in your search for perfection in minor details, you sometimes lose track of the overall purpose of life.

Pluto is in 25 Degrees -- Capricorn

For your entire generation, this is a period of intense changes in the very fabric of society.

That's a bit of an understatement! But at the same time, it can be said of almost any generation.

Many accepted institutions may pass away or be born anew. The good of the community as a whole will be stressed and individual rights may come under attack.

Actually just the opposite, I think, unless you want to count backlash against the revolutions in France and the United States leading into the Victorian era.

This will possibly be a period of decay that will lead to a new order.

Again, sounds like a possible reference to the Victorians.
