When First I Read Udolpho
(The Mysteries of, I say)
Young Emily's adventures
Quite took my breath away
Mrs Radcliffe won the accolade
The story teller's crown
It captured my attention
I could not lay it down
Though to Eleanor I promised
To read this book aloud
Though in fact she was the owner
(And of this next point I'm proud)
While she pleaded and cajoled
She needed patience great
Till I had finished reading
Poor Eleanor must wait
